Bournemouth station is a start to a vacation or a day out for many. Two TOCs run from Bournemouth station, boasting links to Manchester Piccadilly by Crosscountry, or up to London Waterloo and down to Weymouth with frequent South Western Railway services. It also serves a part of a Public Transport Hub, with local buses and long-distance coaches leaving just across the road from the station.

It is also frequented by almost weekly Charter Services, led both by diesel and steam engines of bygone eras, that continue their journey down to Poole, Swanage, and Weymouth. Your daily trains however are operated by Class 220, Class 221, Class 444, and Class 450 trains. The Desiros (444/450) are held and maintained at the nearby depot in Branksome, whereas the Voyager (220/221) are kept at Eastleigh Yard overnight and driven down to start the day of work.

Bournemouth was first electrified in 1967, however, it didn't go further than the depot for quite some time, requiring Diesel Locomotives to attach and detach to the electric trains, to continue their journeys down the South Coast.

Bournemouth also boasts one of the longest continuous platforms in the country, with Platforms 3 and 4 being one continuous stretch on the down-line, similar to Gloucester and Bristol Temple Meads.

Bournemouth is depicted in the Train Simulator Classic route South Western Main Line: Southampton - Bournemouth.
