A Royal Bubble & Squeak

Saturday 16 December 2023 - 1800 onwards
Windsor & Eton Central - All Bar One

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

It's time to make merry in Royal Windsor - come join us for some food and merriment at the All Bar One Windsor. Did you know, this building used to be used as the royal waiting room for VIP guests? Before retiring for food and drink, we will make the short walk from Windsor and Eton Central to Windsor and Eton Riverside, one of our Stations of the Month, to allow everyone the chance to grab a photo!

This event is suitable for everyone, but please dress appropriately for the weather! All are welcome to join, community members new and old, although in line with all On Our Lines events all members aged under 16 must be accompanied by a parent and/or guardian, whilst those aged between 16 and 18 should seek permission from their parent and/or guardian. As always, the even will be bound by the On Our Lines Code of Conduct. The food and drink menu is available here, and there should be something for everyone. Drinking alcohol is, of course, entirely optional.

Please do invite any transport-loving friends or family along too - the more the merrier!

Attendees

If you are planning on attending, or attended, the event, you are encouraged to add your name here. We will use this information to estimate numbers and reserve a table at the venue.

Ticketing

You will not require any specific ticket for the day, but if you joined us for our daytime social, Festive Turbos and Burnham Sprouts, your Thames Branches Day Ranger will be valid. Note: if you wish to depart from Windsor and Eton Riverside station, you will need to purchase a new ticket.

Itinerary

For those of us on the daytime social, we pick things straight up from Slough and catch the 1810 GWR branch shuttle to Windsor. The short journey delivers us for 1816, aiming to start the short walk to Windsor & Eton Riverside by 1820. Note: we may arrive at Windsor early depending on the preferences of those on the daytime social - please keep an eye on our social media for up to date timings.

After snapping our pics at the Riverside station, we return to Central and retreat to the All Bar One for an evening of transport nerdery, fun and merriment. You are encouraged to bring along your transport-themed games and activities, whilst Thryduulf has also prepared a transport quiz for those of you feeling brave! We will also be holding the first inaugural On Our Lines community awards - more on that below!

There's no fixed end time - trains run from Windsor & Eton Central every half an hour well into the night, so you're welcome to join or leave us at your leisure. We also have the option of moving lo a venue closer to central London later in the evening if people so desire.

Please do respond if you're intending to join us so that we may book a table for the event.

Last Trains

We wouldn't want to see anyone stranded in Windsor overnight, so please do make a note of your last trains! We don't intend to be catching these, but it's always good to be aware of them:

  • Windsor & Eton Central
    • To Paddington: depart 2320 and change at Slough, arriving Paddington 2352
    • To Reading: depart 2320 and change at Slough, arriving Reading 0010
  • Windsor & Eton Riverside
    • To Waterloo: depart 2323 and run direct, arriving Waterloo 0019
    • To Reading: depart 2323 and change at Staines, arriving Reading 0041
    • To Waterloo: depart 2337 and change at Staines, arriving Waterloo 0034

Note: You may need to leave Windsor earlier if you have onward connections elsewhere.

Dress Code

Whilst we do not have any formal dress code for On Our Lines social events, we will always encourage you to wear your railway merch or pride swag, in keeping with the ethos of our community! Of course, please ensure first and foremost that you dress for the prevalent weather conditions of the day, and do ensure that any garments do not display any offensive or distasteful slogans or graphics.

On Our Lines Community Awards

We will be holding the first annual On Our Lines Community Awards during the evening, recognising members for their contributions or memorable moments throughout the past year. Nominations for these not-entirely-serious accolades are now open - find out more in the '#A Royal Bubble and Squeak' thread on Discord.
