London North Eastern Railway
London North Eastern Railway (LNER) is a TOC which is run by DfT having taken over from Virgin Trains East Coast (VTEC) in 2018. LNER operates services on the ECML from London King's Cross to Leed's, Newcastle and Edinburgh with some services extending to Lincon and Inverness.

[edit | edit source]LNER operates three train fleets which are the Class 91 Electra, Class 800 Azuma and Class 801 Azuma.
The Class 91 is the oldest member of LNER's fleet dating from 1990s electrification of the ECML, which saw a fleet of 32 140mph Class 91's locomotives numbered 91001-91032, introduced into service with a fleet of Mark 4's Coaches introduced with a DVT on the rear to allow Push-Pull working.

The Class 800, is a fleet of bi-mode 140mph 5 and 9 carriage train built by Hitachi which is branded as Azuma by LNER. Azuma means East in Japanese. The class 800 work in 5, 9 & 10 car services, with the 5 car sets being doubled up to create the 10 car sets.
The Class 801, is a fleet of pure electric 140mph 5 and 9 carriage trains built by Hitachi which is also branded Azuma. These units can be found on the Edinburgh, Leeds and Newcastle services.
