DescriptionBarking 4 Station 1759702 8ed4a349.jpg
English: Barking Station.
View eastwards showing this major station as it was 50 years ago. This was not long after the station was comprehensibly rebuilt and fly-overs and a fly-under had been built to allow ready flow of freight from Ripple Lane Yard and elsewhere down the Tilbury Line to the west and north over the main 'commuter' lines from Fenchurch Street and the District Lines. The platforms served (left to right) Down Kentish Town arrival, Down and Up District (Upminster) Line, Down and Up Tilbury and Southend lines, and Up Kentish Town line; an ex-WD 2-8-0 is standing on the latter. The Fenchurch Street to Tilbury, Southend and Shoeburyness lines were electrified a little over a year later.
