'''Kirk Sandall''' station opened in 1991 on the [[South Humberside Main Line]] to increase connectivity around South Yorkshire. It is sited about 1km away from an earlier, short-lived station - [[Sandall]] - which closed in the 1850s. The station is comprised of a single island platform with basic facilities. Access is via a long ramp from an over bridge, making the station step-free. Two tracks bypass the platforms, one for each direction, allowing for slower freight trains to be held for passenger services.

Services are primarily operated by [[Northern]], with regular services to [[Doncaster]], [[Hull]] and [[Scunthorpe]], as well as a limited service to [[Scarborough]]. These services are usually operated by [[class 156]], [[class 158]] or [[class 170]] [[diesel multiple units]]. One train a day from [[Liverpool Lime Street]] to [[Cleethorpes]] also calls at Kirk Sandall, operated by [[TransPennine Express]]. The train has no return working, and is ordinarily operated by a [[class 185]] diesel multiple unit.

Our visit to [[Kirk Sandall]], on 25 October 2021, was to participate in the Stations of the Month competition, traveling by train to the station on a class 158 unit. From Kirk Sandall we then travelled by bus to nearby [[Hatfield and Stainforth]].
