Moorgate is at the Southern end of the East Coast Main Line Northern City Line route. The National Rail route opened in 1904 as part of the Great Northern & City Railway, which became part of the Metropolitan Line before being handed over to the Northern Line to be part of the Northern Heights Project. The route was transfer to British Rail in 1976.
