The London Underground 1938 stock also known as the Class 483s. The 1938 stock is a fleet of standard stock for the London Underground Deep Level lines from the late 1930s and earley 1940s.

1938 Stock

The 1938 stock were used from 1938 to 1988 on the London Underground, Bakerloo, Piccadilly and Northern Lines. In 1999 the London Transport Musuem restored a set for railtour use on the lights on sticks part of the tube network.

Class 483

British Rail purchased 10 units from London Transport for use on the Isle of Wight Island Line for the 8 1/2 miles between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin and were repaired at Ryde St John's Road Depot which was the home of the class 483 from 1989 to 2021. The class 483s were withdrawn in 2021 as part of a £26 million upgrade which saw the Class 484.
