Class 717

Great Northern Class 717 departing Harringay for Moorgate

The Class 717 Desrio City are a fleet of 44 six coach 85mph dual voltage electric multiple units operated by Great Northern.

The units were ordered to as part of the wining of the Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern Franchise with the order being finalised in February 2016. The first entered service six months Earley on the 28th of September 2018. The Class 717s feature an emergency escape doors due to the running in the Single Bore Northern City Line tunnels. The Class 717s replaced the final Class 313 by September the following year. In November 2023 the first class 717 ran under digital signalling on the Northern city Line and by December 2024 all of the class 717 drivers sign the new digital signalling system called European Train Control System which is also fitted to the Thameslink core and Class 700.
