Class 700

The Class 700 Desrio City are a fleet of 8 and 12 car dual voltage units used on Thameslink services, built by Siemens. [1]
Introduction
[edit | edit source]The Class 700s replaced the Class 319, Class 377 and Class 387 on Thameslink services. The Class 700 provided level boarding in the Thameslink core which greatly improved accessibility. They also saw the massive expansion of the Thameslink network out to Rainham (Essex). As part of the Class introduction two new depots where built at Three Bridges and other at Harringay.
Features
[edit | edit source]The Class 700s feature a First Class at each end with the rear one always being declassified. First Class is the only place which has plug sockets and tables. The Class 700 feature air cooling and heating for passenger comfort, however the seats are known for not being comfortable and are given the nickname Ironing Board.
Safety Systems
[edit | edit source]The Class 700s feature the standard AWS and TPWS for lights on stick running but also ETCS for Thameslink Core and East Coast Main Line.
Special Units
[edit | edit source]Class 700155 was given a Trainbow livery to celebrate Pride to keep pushing the good work.
