Class 387
The Class 387 are a fleet of dual voltage 110mph, 4 car electric multiple units, in use with multiple operators. The class 387s are split into three sub fleets of 387/1s, 387/2s and 387/3s.

Operators
[edit | edit source]Great Western Railway
[edit | edit source]Great Western Railway started off by ordering 30 class 387s with a fleet of 20 Class 365s expected to transfer from Scotrail, however the DfT change there minds and increased the order to 45 units with the 365s being dropped. In 2020 12 members where transferred to Heathrow Express but remained under control of GWR but dedicated to Heathrow Express services.
Great Northern
[edit | edit source]Great Northern received 34 class 387s to replace the Class 377s and Class 321 Dusty Bins which were meant to transfer to Great Northern.
Southern
[edit | edit source]From March 2020 Southern as been making use of the freed up Gatwick Express class 387s from COVID and the reduced timetable to allow the replacement of the Class 313 and Class 455 to save money.
Gatwick Express
[edit | edit source]Gatwick Express ordered 21 class 387/2s to replace the Class 442 Wessex Electrics on the Gatwick Express services in 2018.

[edit | edit source]c2c temporarily used 6 Great Northern class 387/3s until there Class 720 were ready for use. Due to the massively growing customers.
Heathrow Express
[edit | edit source]Heathrow Express agreed a lease of 12 GWR class 387/1s which were freed up from the Elizabeth Line. The 387s replaced the Class 332 with Heathrow Express to allow the closure of the depot to permit the building of Old Oak Common.

ETCS
[edit | edit source]Heathrow Express retrofitted ETCS into there 12 387/1s to allow them to work to Heathrow. Great Northern are in the process of retrofitting there final fleet of 14 class 387s with ETCS as part of the East Coast Main Line Ditgail Project.
